We had our newest doe, Eidelweiss, become a first time mommy. She gave birth last night, January 26th, starting at 8:25 PM. Brianna, our six year old, tried to videotape it, but we got the first one coming out, and then the battery was going on us. Eidelweiss ended up having three, and we certainly weren't expecting there to be that last one in there. Two girls (doelings) and 1 massive boy(buckling). We'll be posting some pics on the Chubbee Monkey Acres link today. Eidelweiss is pretty upset that we took the babies away from her, so we will take them out to see her as it is now warming up outside. We bottle feed all our babies for several reasons. (1) Health-disease prevention (2) the babies bond to us which is a good way to raise goats to trust humans from the start and be more docile and loving (3) we can track, weigh the momma's milk and keep records for her production as these are registered dairy goats, and (4) the Momma goat actually bonds more to us as we milk her..we become her surrogate baby.
